Minority Behavioral Health Group is an affiliate agency of the

County of Summit Alcohol, Drug Addiction & Mental Health Services Board.

Local Schools

MBHG, at the invitation of local school administrators, presents workshops, special programming, and professional development training to students and their families, school staff, and the surrounding community on subjects such as: mental health issues in minority population, successful strategies to utilize when working with minority children and their families, and leadership skills.

Local Churches

MBHG presents various seminars, workshops, and group events, focusing on: the benefits of counseling, educating pastors on how to deal with mental health issues and education and prevention group programming for members of all ages.  

MBHG collaborates with the Mount Calvary Baptist Church Nurses Health Initiative, which consists of professional nurses, community health workers, and others who utilize a holistic approach to service the local community.  Their focus is on disease prevention, infant mortality and the reduction of health disparities in the African-American community and other underrepresented groups, with a concentration on the mental, physical and spiritual health of all participants.

Local Hospitals

MBHG’s staff has worked closely with several local hospitals (Summa Health System and Akron Children’s Hospital) providing professional development training and collaborative service delivery.


Community Initiatives

MBHG collaborates with The Campaign to Change Direction to change the culture in America about mental health, mental illness, and wellness; as part of a coalition of concerned citizens, nonprofit leaders, and leaders from the private sector.

MBHG collaborates with Summa Center for Health Equity (SCHE). We provide behavioral health services, professional education training and group services to the patients they serve.

MBHG has collaborated with the Child Development Council of Franklin County to provide Adult Education and Life Skills Programs for Head Start parents in the Franklin County community.

MBHG has collaborated with Summit County Department of Job and Family Services to provide evaluation and auditing services for its Adult Protective Service program and as a site organizer and site provider for its Summer Youth Jobs Program.
